Greetings ............ Another idea might be to position yourself where there is greater distance between the 'jump' and the ppl in the background - making it easier to blur things behind the rider .......... still thinking ........ (-;

Sorry for the delayed reply Karen ........... sounds like you did all you could with f2.8 ....... experiment with some Photoshop methods - good way to learn them

Karen, what a great shot! Excellent capture. I think you did huge crop, you should be far enough from that place, and 1000 speed...fantastic. Wonderful image. I didn't expect D100 can does it.
Where are you, Karen? Where is your new photos?
My warm regards,
Lena

Your have really stopped the action at the right moment. Very nice detail and colors. Such good resolution for ASA 1000. Don.

karen, beautiful shot, is not easy to get this kind of pictures when you cannot move from your seat... seems like your camera really has a quick response. very well executed! Regards, Ricardo.

What do you mean you can't do still life? That horse looks pretty still to me! ;-) Good freeze, good capture, but I wonder if the horse is just a teensy bit over-exposed?

WOW What a horse , I bet if you had a press pass you would have been in heaven ! I want to see more ... email the to me if you get the chance. I would like to hear what you learned this day .Nice capture . As for the DOF I find digital to be less sensitive meaning a 5.6 on the d100 is not the same as a 5.6 on a F100 ... Another glitch?

Thanks for all your comments. To Ken, this was actually shot at f2.8, 1/640th of a second, ISO 1000 and focal length of 200. What else could have been done to create a shallower depth of field. I thought the same thing about this image, I was surprised when I viewed my images on the computer that there was not more shallow depth of field. Any suggestions???

Thanks Chris, this was taken from my seat and unfortunately we were not allowed to move from our seats to take photographs.

Nicely done, Karen.
Excellent composition and timing.
Would like to have seen the pillars a little straighter, but apart from that, really good.
Kind regards, Chris.

Great shot Karen ..................... maybe a shallower dof to blur more of the background but very well done as is.
