Ah, of course, the D-100 is digital... I'm more familiar with Canon cameras than with Nikon :-)
The no-sky version was more or less what I was thinking about. I think it would do a better job of leading the eye to the door and through it. Here, I tend to end up looking at the sky, rather than at the door and the area beyond it. The way the sky gets darker towards the top could also play a role in that.
Matej, yes, a temporary diversion. Sometimes they're just right there waiting to be taken and I can't say no. It also works nice in bw. Personally, I considered to eventually put more sky in it (up to about 2/3rds), for the clouds, or removed the sky entirely (just white wall with door to the patio, with a patch of sky in the background.) It could have been slide, but I gave completely in to digital, except for long exposures. The quality of digital is now excellent, most of the time superior to 35 mm even in large prints, and with considerably less hassle.
A temporary diversion from B&W? Well, white and blue go well together. I'm wondering how the amount of sky affects the photo. Perhaps less sky would have emphasized the door more?
