About Trying out lighting effects on sunflowers. Had lamp as backlight and flashlight as foreground light. Light was flagged with cardboard to keep off the bg and away from the camera.

I like the back-lit vase and the black bg.

Thanks for the suggestion Toni and Vincent... I think I do like it better less centered. And thanks everyone else for your comments.

this had the potential of being a somewhat cliche picture, but thanks to very cool lighting and great composition, it has become very interesting and very well done.

I humbly stand corrected! What I should have said is that I would really like to see what you could do with a Naiagra Falls or any other beautiful location. Cheers!

Hi Kim, this is a beautiful image you have created. Your use of lighting techniques with lamps and flashlights is very good - keep up the good work. When it is cold and -40 here this winter, I will be referring back to your work as I work on my skills with still life/lighting in the great indoors!

I am not meaning to sound argumentative with Vince's suggestion to get out and find some worthwhile subjects but I have to say I really disagree with this kind of thinking - your subjects are already truly worthwhile!

Kim, this is bloody marvelous! Wouldn't change a thing. Wish I could see the original print.

Vince, I find that some of my best shots are the ones that I can control the light (more studio set up). Don;t know why some of my outdoors shots don't have the punch I'm looking for (other than the fact that I use colour neg. film) and I feel if I can really shape the light to do what I want it to I will be happy with the results.
I do like to hike and camp, and am heading out tomorrow, camera in hand, so we'll see what comes of it. Thank you for your comments and your motivation.
Kim

Looks like a painting! What I like about your work, is that you make something out of nothing. I think that you do well at bringing the most out of each subject you set your mind to. You need to get out now and find some truly worthwhile subjects. Do you like to travel?? This is a great shot. Although I agree with Toni about pulling it over a bit to the right.

Excellent lighting, Kim. Love the vase. Try just a little more off the right and see how you feel about it.

Thanks Russell on both my flower shots. This scan doesn't do this print justice though, unfortunately. Looks a bit soft here...
