About This was taken at small zoo and the crop was this tight in attempt to eliminate the cage and the bands of his feet. I wanted to try to give it a "in nature" feel.

Hi Karen, a very good effort on this owl. I find the dynamic range present on this kind of shot to be very difficult to deal with, and you've done it quite nicely. Because cropping the feet is such a blow to the image, you might consider just capturing everything and removing the offending distractions later (you can always come back to this crop if it doesn't work out). Easier to clone out a band than to construct a claw from scratch! Of course, I'm not above such "modifications" for a good final product, especially if you tell people what you did, but maybe that's still breaking the rules.

BTW, I am working on some more portraits of the girls, but am currently wrestling with lighting. Hard to do good work on a shoestring budget. My wife upped the ante by not hiring a professional, so now I really have to come through!

He's a lovely capture Karen. Not sure what species he is. I see a little light in his eyes, maybe the best you can do if that is the colour of them! :)

Hehe... cool "dude"! Yes, eyes are very dark but I think you can easily lighten them up with "levels" in photoshop. They are not pitch black, I can still see details in them!

The feathers are great but I like Craig feel that maybe you could work on the eyes and lighten them and put in some color. Your background is fine. Don.

Color and composition are good, but it impresses me as not being sharp enough below the face. The main thing though is the eyes that look like "black holes"-- but maybe that's a charateristic of this owl, and thus an unfair criticism?? Don't know.
