About It has been estamated that over 70% of all African Americans displace by the cruelty of Slavery came from Ghana. As an Africans American my return some 400 years later was a spirtual journey. One of imense sorrow and joy. I can only imangine the true horror and lost to such a fine land. I thank God to have been able to see its splender with my own eys.

Wow! This image brought back a few memories! I was in Ghana in January of 2001 and we visited Elmina and Cape Coast also. I took tons and tons of pictures while I was there (16 days) but the majority of them didn't turn out very well. I still posted them on the web since that was a once in a life time trip for me and I came back with a complety different perspective on life. You can see them here if you like: http://www.severelygifted.com/Africa/index.html

Like you, I couldn't just post a the picture and where it was taken. I felt compelled to give a bit of history behind each image I put online.

Awesome image and wonder portfolio overall!

-Christine

The original Elmina in 1637. The book 'Slave trade' by Hugh Thomas is a very good book for the history of slave trade. It was a horrifying, ghastly trade and even more sickening when you learn a lot of Africans themselves took an active part in the trade. It is throughly researched and well written book albeit a bit too big. Nevertheless it will open your mind. Everyone should read this especialy by Africans.
Note: thank you for your comments. Its a delight to share the photos.

the cross stitch effect done in photo shop adds quite nicely to the effect.
