I have been keeping an eye on UF posts and I think it is about time I actually commented  .
You have put up some wonderful shots my friend and this is one of my favourites. I love the sepia tones and the lovely casual posture of the younger woman. I love too the corner vignettes which contributes towards the old world look to the composition. Well done my dear Dave. My very best wishes to you as always......Ray

Mi piace l'illuminazione frontale che dà risalto a tutta la composizione , specialmente i capelli di mom e daughter.
Il gruppo e ottimamente focalizzato.

The image is very very good for the atmosphere and the separation of the main subject from ist background by light and focus difference, Dave! The two women stand out very well and very powerfully in front of the scene. I find the good details on them quite surprising too, since the strongs lights seem to introduce some special kind of softening otherwise, which fits the overall composition very well too. But I think that it is (also) the good details on them that add so much to the appearance and attitude of the image. The well balanced composition and the good contrasts finish it up quite well. Only the house at the right seems to be a bit "out of place". It is not as noticeable under the lower light and softer focus there, though.

As a few others have hinted in their comments, this is really a very touching image Dave. I think you did the right thing creating a "silent" mood (as Taco said) by keeping the image soft and dark.
It's an image a lot of people can relate to.
