Thanks Paul, I did this in Silver Efex. It is a great b/w tool. I was trying for low key. It was shot in my kitchen with available light and a wonderful grandson. We are almost inseparable. He spent the night with me last night.
Be well, stan

Thanks Neel, this boy makes me glad to be alive. We share many hours of great fun and learning. He just get's life. I shot this in my kitchen with one overhead light. So good to see your wife and daughter's image. So glad all is well.

I really like the lighting. Facial expression of the child is apt with this scene. Nice composition.

I am glad if I had the same idea as you did, Stan! But it would be also quite blind to not see that attitude as you managed to convey it so well!! It really speaks for itself this way.

As about the Hasselblad... I can't even say what a fun it is. Easy, robust, exact, wonderful. Much like that Mustang that I was talking about... ;-)

Cheers!

Nick

Thanks so much Ryca, my grandson is so fun to work with. He is learning about photography and chasing light with his grandpa. Thanks for the nice comment, the catch light does make a difference in this type of portrait.

Thanks Nick, you saw this as I had hoped it would be perceived. It is a little dark on purpose as I was shooting this in a very cluttered background. By using a low key approach I was able to eliminate the b/g completely. Kaden is in Kindergarten this year and loves school and all of the learning challenges that he encounters. Thanks for your kind and detailed comment. I always appreciate your thoughts. I am glad to see you enjoying the Hasselblad 500. Keep those shots coming.

Thanks so much Brigitte, I have been working with a b/w program called Siver efex and I was quite pleased with the results of this shot. He is really growing up and yet is is loving and sweet. Thanks for seeing the trust and love between us. The catch light really gave this the spark I was trying to capture. As always, thanks for your friendship and encouraging comments.

It is such a special one, Stan! The low key attitude seems to stand in a good tension against the way the young boy seems to be thinking of something, having something in mind much like how to do something a bit devlish but also meant as fun and for laughing. Perhaps he was thinking of playing some joke to somebody? ;-) Anyway, in order to let this be visible the expression of his face was absolutely important, and in order to get that one has to expose very well for keeping the fine balance of gradients that provide plasticity on a face. The focus was good too, though some details seem to vanish under the rather dark appearance, which in this case is not bad at all as it enhances the overall atmosphere and look, And the good timing and here we are a special, really refreshing portrait.

Cood work!

Nick

A very nice portrait, Stan... your choice of b&w is very good.... it enhances the lovely lighting on your grandson's precious face and brings out his charming facial expressions. A perfect shot of a perfect model. Ohhh and he is growing up before our very eyes! Thanks for sharing him with us. You have done very well with this image... you should be proud. I would make a print so he can treasure your wonderful work forever. :-) And I must add, that I love his beautiful face, it clearly shows a reflection of the one that loves him with all his heart. :-)

Thanks for your thoughts Massimo. This was a quick shot among some others that my grandson and I were taking. We made some faces and this one stood out. I agree about the darkness, was seeing how the kit lens stood up to 1600ISO and wide open lens. Thanks for your good comment!!

Just a bit too dark for a boy portrait, not being a dramatical situation, only my opinion of course, anyway a good portrait with a nice pose.

Thanks Ania, this was window light from a skylight in my kitchen. Shot at high iso to be able to shot without flash. This boy is an animal lover and a real charmer. He has me wrapped around his finger.
