About One of my very first photos made with an SLR. I used a many hand Fuji ST701 ( probably 5th owner or so). It is showing the local village cafe called "het witte paard " i.e. "the white horse. The time of Hofnar cigars, Martini, opel kadett, opel senator 2.0, approx 1979. TV reception was not via cable but by yagi antennas, the large one you see pointed to the german transmitter in Aurich for reception of 3 german channels. Two smaller ones for local TV uhf/vhf)from the tower in Smilde.

The night I took the photo a thunderstorm came from the south of the city Groningen but was put to a hold due to influence of the North Sea, 35 km away. And so it could lighten from 22 pm to 4 am in the morning.

The cafe owner was Bertus Bandringa, he had 2 nice blonde twin daughters and a horse behind the cafe, our neighbour was Johannes van der Veen and his wife ran a post agency, the German TV channels were ARD, ZDF and WDR. His neighbour was Yde van der Cammen, he had work at cityfairs and had a traditional Organ, usually he played music in spring. Next to him was the Rottier family, he was retired policeman and his wife was my nanny when I was a baby. I can recall the 1st landing on the moon, i got a 'sprite' (from my ex nanny) in a glass with a picture of the fabeltjeskrant ( tv series ).
More ?

PS, I always admired the Opel Senator 2.0 , what a powerful car, just listen to the engine.

Salaam

what an amazing memory !!!!,
sure you haven't write that,I swear you are having one of the sharpest memories that I have ever known, you should work as a local historian,
we still use that yagi, and we haven't seen the cable, and the Cadette and Senator are considered Luxurious cars in Mosul,
and just tell me what you mean you are the fifth owner,
my best,
Saad

Excellent color and light. Nice description. I also remember my childhood days when we watched TV via yagi antennas.
