Special thanks to Joe Brown for having brought the muzziness to my attention. I adjusted the levels, added contrast (without adding brightness) and saturated the reds a little bit to give it depth. I'm not adverse to a little photoshop when it's an east facing flower with a west setting sun. On another frame, I tried to use the onboard flash because the face was in shadow, but that big ol' 77 mm nose got in the way. Should have shopped this original as well as cropped for the last upload. Cheers!
Aw, I *like* photos of the faces of sunflowers. The spiral effect of the seeds is fascinating and makes me in awe of the power of nature.
However, I do like your example as a fine example of alternative viewing. When I shot this, I wasn't patient enough. I had come to get an image of the vast field of yellow (which I did get) but when I discovered the mud and my inadequate footwear, I stuck my lens into the face of the nearest flower, tripped the shutter, cleaned off my shoes and skedaddled. Gave up too soon.
Ok... here is the first one I will honestly comment on. I HATE direct on flower shots. Everyone who owns a camera takes this shot(and the one of the long/tall shadow of them waving)... and yes... I have also done this one. Here is where photography slices aside from picture taking. Look at the flower... think about angles.. do something different.
