Excellent Macro. I love those eyes. The fact you were so close the focus fades into the background helps to bring out the detail of the head. Del.

Awesome close up Dave. I really like the depth of field as it has concentrated the viewers attention on its face which is so often lost on an image of the whole insect.
Cheers
Tony

Nice macro, Dave. Really like the composition and strong DOF.
The head and colors are very cool.
The texture and color of the leaf make it very interesting.
Be well, Stan

A superb maco as a study of the micro-world, Dave! The "face" of the dragonfly and its front legs possess a very high level of detail and exact lighting. The greenery around it make the "foreign" world where it lives very tangible. Could it be better to include the whole insect in the DoF? Its wings seem to be very intersting.

Cheers!

Nick

That's quite the accomplishment, Dave! I've never been able to get within such a close working distance! The perspective is simply amazing. I like the great feeling of depth you are getting with a tight focus on the head and forelegs!

Amazing shot Dave. I like the narrow DOF on this one as it draws more attention to the detail in the face. Composition is well done also. Great detail. Cheers Keith:)

Hi Tim, thanks for the comment! I used closeup lenses that screw onto the front of the lens like a filter. I guess it's the equivalent of extension tubes you'd use on an SLR, but not quite as much magnification.
Dave.

Not sure if this dragon fly is scary or just fascinating. Looks like you are using extension tubes to get these, is that right?.....Very cool Dave...
