About The largest land snail ever found was 15 inches long and weighed 2 pounds!
-Snails' bodies produce a thick slime. Because of this slime, they can crawl across the edge of a razor and not get hurt.
-Some snails have been known to live up to 15 years.
-Snails are hermaphrodites which means that they have both male and female reproductive organs.
-Snails usually travel in irregular paths, often traveling in a circle.
-Snails reply mainly on their sense of touch and smell when finding food because they have very poor eyesight.
-Snails cannot hear.
-Snails can retract one or both of their tentacles at a time.
-Because of the suction created by their slime, a snail can crawl upside down.
-Snails are nocturnal animals which means they are more active at night.
-Garden Snails mainly eat garden plants and vegetables, but they will also eat decaying plants and soil.
-The fastest snails are the speckled garden snails which can move up to 55 yards per hour compared 23 inches per hour of most other land snails.
-Garden snails hibernate during the winter and live on their stored fat.
-Garden snails breathe with lungs.
-Garden snails evolved from sea snails about 600 million years ago.
-The garden snail is cooked and eaten as a delicacy called escargot
-May 24th is National Escargot Day

I personally don't really adore snails,
the one with house are ok, but the naked
ones scare me somehow, since I was a kid;))
Give me rather a lion or an elephant!!! xxJen

If this is one of the biggest snails then this is very good portrait photo (not macro :-))

Very good shot. I love it.
Congrats!
All the best

Excellent detail and the focus in just the right place. In one of the comments you say you think the DOF is not enough. Well, I don't know what settings you used, but this is one of the issues with macro shots. Even if you close the aperture right down, you are not going to increase the DOF dramatically. So the skill is often in getting the "right" bit in focus, which you have done here.

AJ

PS. I like the concept of snails with "houses", and the naked (homeless?) ones!

Well, yes I do watch both programs quite often, just the killing animal parts I dont like!
Also where they show this bad animal treating in the US, is for me awful to see...but Iknow it happens everywhere!
For me its great these snails DO have houses, looks different anyway, where are you afraid of my dear? Hugs Jenxx

Well, not too fast mostly, and certainly not in circles, although that is possible in my house:)
I know I wouldn't need to go anywhere for shots, but I just have to, getting restless and wanting
to see different people and cultures, don't you have the same??
But I still prefer as will big animals above snails and bugs to be honest...even above people!!
See you soon, hugs Jenxx

Hi Jen,
I know that you are moving faster and mostly not in circles, but your house on the back that could be you as well.
Beautiful "back"yard wildlife over here. The proof : You don't need to spend a fortune to get into all those National Parks at the other site of the globe for making such top shots. Colours and composition are in perfect balance. Your sharpening focus is on the appetizer: A delicious salad. Good Idea. Lieve groeten van Paul

there??
Slaap lekker mijn lief vriendinnetje, dikke kus en fijne dromen!! Liefs Jenxx

GReat macro... lol...somebody is hungry, what a shot Jen, and very good focus, plus the good lighting conditions that helps a lot in the details of the snail, perfect shot.
I think the first that you upload is better...because of the fealling about the mouth use...
