You remind me of Ansel Adams with this one, Wolf! A balance that is both hard to achieve but also gives a good amount of enhancement to every participant of the scene!
The contrast is simply unimaginably high and makes everything so visible in the stringest possible way! I think that your angle was the best here. Everything just integrates into a good view of "what is out there". Especially regarding the black silhouettes against the sky, I think that this is exactly the way to compose it. Any of the (unfortunately) so usual closer zooms into some part of the scene would only present some incomplete view which simply can't transmit the grandiosity of the scene.
