About The last one of the series "Remembrance". Sometimes the situation immediately brings the lyrics of a song into mind, and this was just such a situation. It was a bit of strange and a bit of unexpected - and Bob Dylan's "One more cup of coffee for the road" wouldn't get out of my mind. So I tried to somehow get a photo of it. I think the cup should be completely in the frame, but still I find it relatively good for posting. Any comments would be highly appreciated.

You gave me a good description of what I seem to see, Andre! Yes, I mean that kind of results of actions of the people that permanently change the scene, like putting the chair here, and the glass there, and so on. Those who did that are not in the image but the results of their actions remain and I think that this is what suggests that "alive" look to me.

Thanks a lot for clarifying that!

Hi Nick,
I think I know what you mean by "alive". Most likely you associate the scene with people moving in and out constantly. If you set up a tripod in that same area and took 100 images throughout the day, the chairs, table and cups would have changed position a number of times. Sometimes people would be in the scene, sometimes not. So, I suppose there is a kind of "life" that goes on.

And please, don't forget to improve the coffee with something stronger, ey? ;-)

Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Avi!

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the nice and detailed comment, Andre!

I think that the cup should be completely in frame, but still I find this one exactly as you described. Everything "needed" and not anything more. Strange thing is that it appears so "alive" to me, though there are no people there.

Cheers,

Nick

Of course I'll be there, Gustavo! Actually we *are* already there, all of us!

When do we start drinking?

Thank you and cheers to you!

Thanks a lot, Doyle, for the in depth going comment and suggestions! First of all, yes! That cup should be completely in frame, and that's my own cncern about the image too! I am very glad to see that the opinions do converge here!

Indeed there is that kind of chaos that is left behind when the people stand up and go, and the poor maid has to take care of cleaning uop and bringing all back to order for the next people to come ;-) I guess that this is an inherent part of it - it makes it somehow tangible that after the cup of coffee the people left to who knows where, whatever road that might have been.

Thanks a lot for the comment again, and all the best!

Thanks a lot for the nice comment, Dave! Actually it has been a much longer road to be taken after the "one more coffee" than the way back to work, but still you got the message perfectly.

Cheers!

Thanks a lot for the nice and detailed comment agaon, Linda! A bit of a wider angle and a little turn of the camera to the right would have done it, I guess too. That's a good hint for the next cup!

The stairs just lead to the houses behind - ordinary people and no mystery there too ;-) But seriously now, the street and the stairs were that kind of "some of the possibilities" of the road taken after the cup of coffee - or something similar to that. And I consider such scenes absolutely not mysterious at all. It is real life to me. Coming and going and most of the time not even noticing others that do the same. So, I'm more on the "real" part of it, just as it happens.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,
You have a real winner with this one! Everything seems perfectly composed without being set-up, if you know what I mean. The natural light and shadows are very appealing.
It's the kind of image that has a lot going on in it, at the same time, everything belongs and nothing distracts. I like the way the shadow on the stairs gets gradually darker and then leads to the light near the top of the image.
Very nice job on this one Nick!

I like this Nick . . . it DOES convey what I think you were trying to convey . . . though I do wonder about the placement of the coffee mug on that rightside crop. Excellent play with the diagonal shadow lines intersecting the horizontal building lines. Like the tonal range too. The only concern I would have about moving the cup INTO the frame completely is would it then look too contrived? This way seems to give a natural flare to the essence of that which you were trying to capture . . . and the questions do, indeed, write themselves. Is there a chair pushed back from the table to the right (off camera), for example?

Anyway . . . I very much like it my friend.

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Nicely done street scene, Nick! Somewhat evocative with the empty table, as it looks as if someone has just left in a hurry to get back to work after "one more coffee"!

Nice shot with moody sentiments Nick, I like the tones and the diagonals of light directing the viewers eye to the coffee cup. Nicely exposed, and I agree that the cup should be all the way within the frame but I agree that it's a nice picture. Perhaps a wide angle would have been better? I also like the staircase and the small bit of light at the top leading somewhere, but where? it adds to the mystery, who sat here, what did they drink, why did they leave, were they alone, where did they go, what's up there..mysterious and interesting. Again I have to say that your words invite the viewer into this study of the image, very good work Nick!! Kind regards!! :) :)
