Sandip, keeping a single thing sharp in an otherwise motion blurred image shows skill, technical skill of course, but still skill. In addition, motion blur is very different in its look than soft or lazy focus, and indeed there will be cases, where both of them are used as an excuse for missing skills. There are though enough other skills, the presence of which can be detected in, say, a blurred image. Like for example composition, or the ability to catch the decisive moment, and the like. So, when I see the image of a blutty glass of water standing on a table, it is very likely that some autofocus didn't work right ;-)
Of course it is naive to reduce any image to the sum of such skills, but still they do say something about the experience and the wish of the photographer to deal with such subjects in a very interested and thoughtful way. And so I also think that the discussion about them is not naive at all, but rather difficult to carry on, since it will never end. It is just like looking for the absolute truth although we do know that we will never find it. The way towards that "truth" counts much more for me than the "truth" itself, and so I just... go! ;-)
Best wishes,
Nick

Nick,
Again I'm in complete agreement. But just think about this, a photographer who thinks blurry images are not bad in contrast to sharp ones. He's not taking very difficult pics (like using a 400mm lens in fading light kind). Still, his credibility is almost always questioned in such cases, and we say "aah .. this is unsharp". On the flip side, i've seen hundreds of images where there's one sharp figure in contrast to a lot of motion/blur, and in the composition books/classes we're told it makes the blur effect more prominent. Don't you think this too obvious, almost naive, reflecting our inherent reservations about the sharpness aspect. I feel so. May be, I'm wrong. But i'll like to shoot some total blur shots instead of using motion again stillness.
Thanks again and best regards,
-sandip

The leg at the right I consider too as one of the most "live" elements here, Sandip. It is sonething like the continuation of all that activity to the outside of the image, letting us thus concieve some kind of very real scene where this image could have been captured.
And I also understand you rather immediate point of viewing the scene through this image. It indeed goes more "live" the way you did it. As about sharpness, well, perhaos it is because it i s much harder to get than, say, some image that doesn't have it. In the latter cas: If the image was indeed ntended this way, then I would say let's go for interpretation. If it is only unsharp because if missing skills then just forget it. Too many things are sold as "arts" just because they are without skills nowadays. But, in the case of a wanted and intented look and feel we have something else, that indeed can take us much much further than a merely sharply captured image.
The question is, how to recognize what the intention was. Well, though here are very very strong hints for that, they are of course only hints. The best thing to do is to trust what the photographer says and take some steps into interpretation.
Best wishes,
Nick

Actually, I love blurred images, depending on how they are done. This one works beautifully. I like her bright colors against the dullness of the street scene.:)

I think I understand what you say, yes, that way the composition would have been stronger. However, my intention was to shoot a street shot. Thus, I did not crop the image at all. The composition was a momentary one and i thought it would be better to keep it that way. If you look closer you'll see there's a leg intruding in the pic which is not adding much to the composition but imo it makes it more realistic ... but certainly your idea is very suitable for a stronger visualisation, and i'll try that next time :). Thank you very much.
And i too believe that sharpness in itself does not take you too far. We're somehow very adamant on this. Don't know the reason, but I'll try to find out more (may be using more blurred/off key pics).

I think that it would strike my eyes eben stronger, Sandip, if the all but the walking woman would have even less color - or were almost B&W.
Sharpness alone for the sake of it is a very buorgeois concept, so it doesn't really has to be. But I think that the composition itself would have came out stronger if there were no car and no green plants at the top. I think that it would fit much more the motion blur of the shot.
Best wishes,
Nicvk
