Photography is more then a subject's likeness. Photography is more then a method or process of capturing a likeness or image.
It's both (in a way) a science and an art. Only by deconstructing the image do we find what works and what does not.
I learn a lot more from critiques then simple comments. I learn a lot more from comments then no comments too!
The hard part for me is that some people mistake the critique for rejection of the image. That's not the case. Critiques simply illustrate how an image could have been made better. Then the creator then should reflect upon his/her image and see if there was a valid point and if so, what could be done better next time.
Cheers, Geoff

Wonderful composition, great position for the horsefly, both in the placement in the photograph and proportion of the photograph.
I enjoy how the leaf leads the eye into the photograph. Then reaching the fly it leads up onto the the fly, highlighting the wonderfully detailed wing.
Then the eye looks at the whole fly and it's amazing texture.
Lastly the eye shifts to the background but the strong soft verticals in the back tie the image down and force your eyes back to the foreground.
The rubbery plant leaf is a stark contrast to the fly which is both furry and hard in places. All add to the enjoyment of the image
A good eye, a serendipitous momment, the right equipment and great skill create great imagery :) Kudos.
