HA! I'm trying to get one of these to use as a prop... probably too heavy, though, and I don't need the dogs peeing on my set when I'm trying to photograph them (one did on my backdrop the other day..)
A nice, bright, cheery yellow, Michele. Nicely shot.

Dear Michele IŽm back after some time in Jutland and after not being able to log on to UF this weekend. I did see JoeŽs dog- what a cutie:-) I understand why you want to wait. A dog is a great joy but also a big responsibility, so everything has to fit in before getting one. I look forward seing what kind youŽll get when the day comes though;-)) Take care

The price may have dropped Joe, but when you have a limited in-come as I do right now -- it really doesn't help much:( Thank You for the info on Fastone Image Viewer tho---- I do have access to another newer pc and may be transfering over sooner than later--- I am sorry I don't know about another forum for discussions but being a donor I think you could find out at the donors forum------- also there are several other links here to try. I really appreciate all of your help and information Joe, You are truely a great friend :))) All the Best, Michele~

It is important to have a good fast computer. You need lots of ram, 2 gigs. min. Also, you should get a large second hard drive for storing and backing up images. I have 2 external usb drives, 250 and 320 gigs. The price on these things have dropped a lot recently. Faststone Image Viewer is a real good free program for organizing your images and doing some editing. I highly recommend it. Is there another forum or bulletin board where people on this site discuss things? All the best my friend, Joe

Wonderful saturation of the yellow color on this fire hydrant. I some how like these type of compositions very much, and very recently I tried to shoot one, however it was in vain. Want to see more of this kind, regards, Bhabesh

You explain very well Joe , and I like your treatment of the image however I am out of RAM and don't have, or rather can't use PS - or Elelments.... I also don't have another lens besides the one that came with the camera.... I have fotofiltre, and picassa for editing that's it... If I don't take the image the way I want at the start I am pretty much out of luck for now...I need a new PC..I am working on a Dell ME which is almost ready to give out on me....... I would other-wise welcome your treatment of the image:(( I do however appreciate your time to explain, and to show me what can be done-- Doyle Chastain has been helping me along from a point & shoot camera to my still new Nikkon & he tells me this all the time-- I need Elements!! I can't wait until I can get a new pc and funcetion with all the stuff others use :)) It looks really cool .... Much Appreciation, Your Friend, Michele~

When you shot the image you could have used a shallow dof by selecting a large aperture/small f number to blur the background. Also, a telephoto lens will give you a more shallow dof. Since you already have taken the image and would like to modify it, you can blur the background in an image editing program like Photoshop Elements 5.0 which I use. Here's how I did it. I used the Magnetic Lasso Tool to select the hydrant. Then, in the Select pull-down I used the Inverse function to select everything except the hydrant. Under the Filter pull-down I went to Blur/Gaussian Blur and applied a 2.8 pixel blur. You may want to blur more or less. Also, at this point you can do anything else you want to the background eg adjust the lighting or colour. Then in the Select pull-down again I used the deselect function to select nothing and saved it as a jpeg. What do you think? All the best, Joe

Michele -- Overcast in the low 40's with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour. Won't get nicer until the end of the week. We had some basement flooding (minor) during the heaviest part of the storm as one of the backup sump pumps failed after a power outage. All is good and all is dry for now. --Regards, Jan

LoL! Great title . . . uhhhhh . . . you called? Heheheee. I was suprised to find them painted Gold in Beverly Hills (though I don't know why). I grew up with the traditional red . . . started seeing yellow . . . then Silver and Gold . . . Even knew somebody that painted the one in front of their house Red, White and Blue! Turns out, that's a No No! Shadows add some depth and the color is rich! Nice work!
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

The yellow sure jumps straight from the background shadows Michele...:)

...but where is the dogs? lol....that could be the reason of that yellow color...hahahaha! Very nice lighting, the shadows of the leafs gives very nice scales on the vividness of the yellow and a feeling of 3D too, stunning dark background that support it too. Cheers!
