Dan, this picture captures the feeling of cold, crisp, clean, the very way I see it when I've been to Tahoe/Truckee. IMHO this is a great photo! Do you want to change the color for purposes other than to relate time and place? =) Rosanna
Dan, I agree with the previous remarks. It's a great shot... love the shadows and the clouds. I'm about 1 hour to the W. of where those pics were taken, in Sacramento. I had all intentions to take some winter pictures this year, but never got around to it. I read in magazines that if you wish to submit photos to publishers, especially calendar publishers then your best chances would be for them to accept winter pictures, because just as the life goes dormant in winter, so do many photographers and there are always shortages on good winter scenics such as yours, especially for Christmas cards, etc. Thanks for sharing these, you've inspired me, maybe I'll try my luck in the Sierra Mtns this weekend.
The polariser would not affect the color cast here. The blue comes from the reflected skylight. If you want to correct for the blue you could use a light warming filter. But you have to be careful to not change the color cast of the snow too.
I'm partial to blue :) I like it... With so much brightness, this shot looks fairly hard to pull off, I think you did a nice job with it. As faint as they are, the power lines are causing some distraction.
