No need for f/22 if your on digital James. The shorter the exposure the better as a rule of thumb as the heat generated by the sensor produces more noise. An exposure of maybe f/11 with twice the shutter speed might have done a bit better for you.
As i leanrned from another poster i think on here, (maybe it might have been Jaroen Wenting himself) that Ansel Adams rules dont always apply to digital.

You can also lower lens a bit to get more reflection from river. Try Circular Polarizing filter to reduce haze. CPL will require slightly longer exposure, but you can compensate it with f/5.6 use. Use manual focus to infinity.

James, my camera has RAW+ setting. Each click creates RAW and JPG files. Sometimes JPG is better. Very seldom, but true. And by reviewing jpg(s) I locate favories in thumbnails fast, then process them in Rawshooter.
Great shot here. With wide angle Hypperfocal point is so close, that you can easily use f/5.6 or f/8 instead of f/22. By the way f/22 is always softer in detail even with Canon, minolta, Pentax, Nikon lenses. f4-f/16 is best range. Don't be affraid of fully opened diaphragm as well, especially with 15-30 sec exposures! Take a try.
