These are the vast grasslands of the sub-Tibetan plateau in southern Gansu province. One can drive for hours here and see nothing but rolling hills, yak herds, Tibetan villages, and empty space. Altitude is approximately 3200 metres at this point. Quite high and beautiful. Note the lone tent in foreground.... the day prior there was an entire village here (similar to the one seen in Grasslands III), however by the time I got back for photos today, they had all moved.
Nice framing choice. The tent is positioned to add interest and balance while also giving the viewer a sense of the scale of the hills. The land is indeed high, it seems as though the clouds almost scrape the hilltops! Nice color capture as well. A very well balanced composition. I also appreciate your description of the place, it gives context to the shot and helps me enjoy it more.
thanks vasile.... i'm not really so happy with these grassland photos, as i didnt get to see what i actually wanted to see. i went on this day long tour with three other people (and a chinese driver) and two of the three others weren't keen photographers, thus i felt i had to rush to keep them happy, when i shouldnt have worried about it. further, because i felt rushed, while changing memory cards in my fuji, i left a 256mb xD card on top of one of the mountains (full of photos).
at any rate, if i go back there again, i'll make sure to spend more time in the mountainous grasslands.
very well composed landscape image. Beautiful colors and DOF. Admirable presentation of a wonderful piece of our globe. Help to protect the environment (the world around us).
