Interesting technique... I do notice the lack of mid-tones though and as a result even though there were 8 images blended it still looks rather stark hence my initial read that a blend or HDR hadn't been done. The challenge with these shots is finding the right combination. It would seem you had fun working on this one... and of course taking it.

The number of views shows on my screen as the same, but that can't be right. My best shots have never cracked a 1,000 and this one is good but not that great.
You will see more and more waterfalls in the next few days.

This is a composite of about 8 shots. About two for the bright section and six for the waterfall. I was close enough where the spray was placing droplets on the lens and I had to composite out the droplets via layers, so HDR was not an option.
The remainder of the shot was blended like you suggested, I was just too lazy to add another six shots from the midrange.

The wide dynamic range of this scene is beyond that of what your sensor can handle. Your best bet when taking this shot would have been to use a graduated neutral density filter. Hopefully you shot this scene in RAW versus JPG. If you did I'd recommend blending two different processed images.... one for the shadows and another for the highlights. If you had time I'd do another for the midtones as well although there aren't many. None the less it would help in the blending. Its an alternate way of doing HDR. The beams of light and the motion blur of the water is extremely attractive.

A dreamy image Michael and a perfect work. You have controlled very well tha stark contrast, they highlights of the rays of sun and the very shadowy fall of water.

My friend Hugo how are you, long time no see much of your work, hope you all in one piece .
I would prefer the original post here, specially with very well balanced upper half of this image, exposue wise of course. This man is doing a great job with Landscape, I just wonder how would one of these images look like in B/W.

Yeah, that's very close to what I had in mind. Well done on the details in the backdrop of the waterfall too... A Hugo Award, heh? Well, mate, you'd have to come up with something like the attatched crop then. hehehehehehe....
I did trick the contrast using shadow highlight of CS2, and masked the sky (rather bluntly), multiplying the new layer. In the waterfall itself, I desaturated the cyan levels a notch....
