About This isn't the greatest photo but it is taken in the rain with an 8 second exposure. Finally, after months of baking, New Mexico is getting drenched. So this is a celebration photo for two reasons.

The other reason is that for years, I have tried to capture lightning. There were some great strikes during these storms but there is a law regarding lightining. It always strieks where the camera isn't pointing. Finally, a shot or two!

Taken post-sunset.

Dave, I just read the comments in the 'About' box. I just wish we could get some of that rain, here, in Australia! We are pretty desperate for it in a lot of the Country!

I think you've done pretty well with it. You've captured a mood of dread, and the threat of impending doom. The lightening is a real bonus! I like it! Well captured!

Cheers

Phil

Jinggoy:

I tried using manual settings but soon found that wasn't working. This was a pretty fast moving storm and I didn't want to lose the chance so I turned to auto and hoped for the best.

Luckily, most of the rain was not where I was. When it strated raining by me, very light, I would get the camera under cover. The rain by me only lasted a couple minutes, not the long drenching that they got where the lightning is.

I hear you, it's not easy. I've always wondered how you set up your camera to capture lightning. Do you do aperture priority to keep it sharp all through out? Or just do auto and wing it.
Everything considered, great capture, I'm sure you won't be trying this out often with your 30D in the rain.

I think that this is a great shot. I like it because the lightning is unusual seeming to be floating looking for a place to strike... (looking for your lens.:)) Andree

Nice work Dave, sharpness/noise aside - a great capture! The clouds and bolt of lighting make for a very dramatic shot,

We too get excited by rain!
We've been in the grips of drought for several years. If we are lucky we get little teases of a mm or two.
Great shot. Wonderful light and the lightening is magnificent.
