About Celebrating my recent move to New Mexico, I took an afternoon off and spent it taking pictures of my new "backyard". This is taken on the bluffs to the north of my "ranch". This is on the Navajo Reservation.

Congrats on the relocation. I wish I had this kind of scenery so close at hand. Anyway, beautiful image, spectacular lighting and composition. Did you use a graduated filter on this?

What an incredible moment!
To have such complimentary tones between sky and deep red rocks, Dave. This is OUTSTANDING!

hi there,Dave!...love the time of day lighting which gives warm appeal and nice shadows...well composed,too....wish this was uploaded to the new larger sizing so i could see more details...has a soft look and that is ok with me as i don't think all images should be sharpened...nice sky,too
When in doubt about border color,a thinner black one will usually suit well
Are you close to Santa Fe,Taos or Madrid,NM?
Was there once and want to return at some pt.
regards,gayle

Well composed, with beautiful colors. The focus seems a bit soft IMO. The frame overwhelms the image. I would have chosen a simple drop shadow, and allowed the image to dominate.

Thank you for the critique on my color choices for the frame. It is one of the biggest decision problems I face, figuring out what colors to use, etc.

I have to learn complimentary colors, etc. So, in an effort to help me out here, suggest what colors you would have used.

Again, thank you much for the comments!

Dave

i like the composition and colors in the photo much, yet i think choosing two colours from the photo to make the frame is not a good choice.
as they are not even complimentary colors, distracting the eye to the frame as it is made of straight lines yet with the same colors presenting the natures irregularity.
i mean the frame is supposed to present the photo but your choice of colors made it part of the photo and of course a weak part compared to the landscape.
hope u get my point.
great shot Dave, well done.
best regards.
