Hi Luis, Yes I am a ballet teacher who is passionate about photography, so am lucky enough to be able to combine my 2 passions. Once the local dance community found that I do photography, they have used me a lot for performances etc. It does become rather hectic at times though. Cheers. Suzanne

Hi Lydia, When I took this, I also was very new to digital photgraphy & had a basic camera on auto. I selected the dancer, inversed the selection & made the background a radial gradient fill layer, taking the colour from her dress. There was actually quite a lot of noise in the darker parts of the dress, so I slightly blurred those parts, using the blur tool at 50%. I do a lot of dance photography now, & use 800ISO at least, plus 80 - 100 shutter speed. If you would like any more help, just email me at opitzphotos@hotmail.com Cheers, Suzanne

Suzanne, this is a lovely image indeed! Well done for cloning the background into this amazing effect.
What I do not understand (I'm new to photography and can take images of only VERY still objects at this stage) is how a slow shutter speed of 1/60 managed such a relatively sharp image - I see your aperture was rather big, but how does that render such an image? Would appreciate your thoughts on this tremendously. Many thanks

Stunning and beautiful work. The colours really emerge against the background. A rather graceful and elegant image.

Thanks for your comments on all my phots Phill. I'm actually in shock at the moment but enjoying it! Where in the US do you live? I'm going there for a month in Sept/Oct. but will be in the NY/Penn/DC area. Be great to meet if you are not 1 million miles away. Cheers, Suzane (P.S. My son is in NY at the moment, so I'm visiting him)

Once again you have uploaded an outstanding image. If I ever make it down under, would love to meet up with you. A wonderful image, and perfect for the project. As far as the unsharp feet, I like it that way, it is kind of etherial. Fading in and out of reality as she jumps. Beautiful Image!!!! Keep it up.

A huge CONGRATULATIONS, Suzanne!
I am so glad that you came over to this site! I had a feeling you would do well!!!!
I'm just glad that I suggested the 'Decisive Moment' project. I got it right!!!!!! :)
Two awards in two days??? Incredible! Good on you!
You should, now, become a donor, so that you can upload up to four photos each day and, also, be able to participate in the Donor Forum.
Suzanne, are you aware how lucky you are to win this award? There has been over 9400 photos entered into this project. The judges have only awarded 47 BIP awards!!!!!! That's how good your photo is!!!!
Once again, Congratulations on your BIP award.
Cheers
Phil

No Cathy. The original background was a messy ballet studio. It was taken in natural light through the window. I used a radial fill layer & took the colour from the dress. Cheers, Suzanne.
