A critique is not a putdown. Critical comments are meant to help photographers improve their work. Simple expressions of approval or dislike aren't enough to tell a photographer why you think a photo is good or bad. I feel when offering critiques or comments you should be candid, critical, constructive, and friendly. Enough said, here's my critique. This is a good clear subject. The colors are light and natural. There is a distraction with the leaf at the top. With the Subject being so large crop should be square. If you wanted to do a composition shot then you should apply the rule of thirds. Using the Rule of Thirds helps produce nicely balanced easy on the eye pictures. Good places to put things; third of the way up, third of the way in from the left. Here's an example...

How big is this flower? The image itself is quite boring as Megan said. It really is just a picture. There's nothing special about it. There is a light apot above the image flower which is distracting. Would have been nicer if it was a macro rather than this format.

Very pretty Kenneth. I like how there are variations of pink on each petal. The drops are nice too, adding beauty to the shot. Susie

Superb detail in the petals Kenneth...like the soft color. I too believe the pink border detracts from the overall image. The only other suggestion would be to either darken and/or slightly blur the background to make that marvelous bloom really stand out. Best regards--Bill Voizin

This looks like what my Mom used to call Rose of Sharon. If so, it is in the hibiscus family. Beautiful bloom and a lovely photo. Good colors and details.

Hi Kenneth, I have never seen one of these flowers before. Almost looks like an umbrella. Just a thought for you on framing.... I find the boarder is a bit bright and distracts me from the picture. I have done the exact same thing as you did here many times....choose a colour from within the picture that stands out and use it as the small part of the frame. However, lately I am trying to use a colour that goes better with the background or is darker then the main subject. I am finding that it will help to bring out the subject and put more focus onto it. I am a fan of framing myself. I like the way it puts a finish to the picture. Chris
