You can, Priscilla, with the Digital Rebel and the Wratten 89B filter. This was taken with the Fuji S9000, which performed very similarly to the Rebel. Thanks for the compliment, Priscilla. You have a real talent. Don't some trivial equipment problem frustrate you. Anson

I must say I am fascinated by the use of Infrared! It gives a new dimension to a B&W shot. Here I have the feeling that those fuffy clouds are going to fall down and cover everything!Moody landscape is something that I love. Good work, Anson!

Setting the white balance in IR false color photography is a requirement, Derek, and after that the filter does its work, although a little color balancing and desaturation was done in PS. Let's see some more of your landscape work on UF. Thanks for the nice compliment. Anson

I think you just contradicted yourself with that comment, but that's OK. I'll focus on the "nice". Thanks for stopping by and being so encouraging. Anson

Thanks for the nice words, Robert, but just when I think I have the IR technique under control a surprise jumps out (not this one though). Your portfolio will stand up to any comparison on UF! Anson

Absolutely stunning, I have a hard time believing this was actually shot by a camera! The fade to the left side of the image and to the right rather gives the effect you just left the woods, or you are standing at their edge shooting the photo. Nicely done!

A very perceptive and accurate critique, Hugo, which helps me recollect why this particular photo has the somewhat unique look that it does. After having spent a great deal of time learning the "false color" IR technique I find myself amazed at how light intensity affects color balance, saturation, "Woods effect", and overall appearance of the image. This particular one was taken on a nearly fully overcast day, with only slight breaks in the clouds periodically, and was a little bit of an experiment. I wanted to convey the idea of the house and farm being part of a very difficult, and sometimes nearly defeated type of life, i.e. the somber look. Since I chose the road as a focal point of the eye, I had to desaturate the image considerably to eliminate most of the color, since I didn't want it to hold the eye, just be a "negative space". The low light here almost completely eliminates the "Woods effect" on the green vegetation of the trees, but shows up as a gray color on the grass. That "no color" look in the center is due to a slight color shift to blue with the lens setup I used. Look at the sequel image of this house taken on the very next day to see what an increase in light intensity does to colors. The road in that image comes out amber. Which one do I like most? Different messages. Thanks again Hugo. We need more critiques like this to make UF more functional. Regards. Anson

Hi Anson, Nothing wrong with this photo, it's very well captured, nicely composed, and an eloquent scene in IR. Good shot.

I only think the contrast between the IR trees and the clouds is a bit low; If this shot were taken on a less overcast day, that issue would've been solved by itself, increasing the impact, as well as the generally ery IR feel.

The tonal depth and colours seem to fade off a bit towards the middle; is that an intentional thing? It does create a rather dated look about this photo, and does increase the gloomy feel.

Cheers,

Hugo

Beautiful Anson- the colouring and texture. And the way that road carries the eye.

Thanks for the nice comment, AlZahraa, although it may be a little inflated. Your "hands" series is very good; I always think the human hand has so much potential for expression to be so overlooked. Hope to hear from you again. Anson

Thanks for the flattery, Tom, which may be a little profuse. That road to me looked a bit contrived, but it does add depth. I really like your "Abandoned" image, almost like something one faces in critical situations. Come again. Anson

Good you stopped by John; hope you will again. Your "Autumn" has the feeling and mood I try for in some of my IR stuff; it's a moving photograph for me. Anson

Thanks for the reaction and comment, Erik. One nice spinoff of "false color" IR the way I try to do it is some interesting color appearances, sometimes unexpectedly. Greatly dependant on filter type used. Wish you would loan me some of those models in your great portfolio! The Selena no. 1 is one of the most warm images I have seen on UF! Anson

That is one of the features of "false color" IR images, Glenda, and thanks for stopping by and commenting. Looking forward to commenting on your photos as you build your portfolio, and welcome to UF! Anson
