About
One of hundreds of shots I took at Silverstone racetrack yesterday during a testing session for the Formula 1 Grand Prix teams. I could bore you for weeks with these, but I won't unless anyone says anything nasty about this photo. :)
This was something of a steep learning curve for me - I've never tried motorsport photography before. But I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting it was - and it was fascinating to explore the capabilities of the D70s in a little more depth.
This image is straight out of the camera, apart from NEF > JPG conversion and resizing for Usefilm.
Hehe! I do actually have some shots of Filipe Massa, actually - I'll have a look on my website and see whether I published them or whether they're in my offline archive. I've got some old ones of Rubens Barrichello too, but they were taken on my old film SLR and they're not very good...
In an ideal world, I'd love to have photographed the great Ayrton Senna. The best racing driver in the world, ever!!
Thanks for your comment, as always! :) This is the first time I've ever done any "proper" motorsport photography - I found it tricky, but very interesting all the same. There are more photos from this session on my website, if you'd like to have a look: www.sqirl.co.uk/f1gallery
I LOVE F1 SQirl.....but I have never been this close to a car as you. An excellent shot with beautiful rich colours and wonderful details. Sorry to be late....this time of the week always places me behind due to unusual working hours. Very best wishes to you......Ray
The grid babes don't drive the cars. They just stand around and look babe-like for the guests of people paying lots of money for the hospitality functions. :)
Anyway, it's obvious that's not a woman. He can see over the front of the car to the track beyond. When I drove something similar (but not as fast, obviously!) I had loads of foam padding behind my back and I could still barely reach the pedals and see the track ahead over the instrument panel. Adds a whole new dimension to the expression "flying blind"...
