About A friend of mine resting and checking the wounds on her knees, chin, and fingertips after a 30+ minute losing battle with a very difficult 5.12a climb at Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. I waited a good 5 minutes for her to wipe the disappointment off of her face and crack a smile at someone's joke.

Your description explains the pose to me. She looks like she is uncoiling, changing states from the disappointment of failure to happiness in the company of friends. I can imagine that an instant before she was more tightly balled up and that a moment later she was fully involved with the conversation and activities around her. You seem to have captured the decisive moment of this transformation.

I like the relaxed way she is sitting. Very nice expression. Very well done.

Thanks all for the comments. Dean, I too like this shot for the unconventional pose. Her toes angled toward each other, resting her chin on one hand and feeling her thrashed fingertips with the other. Looks like a somewhat uncomfortable position, but so much more comfortable than the position she was in on the wall 10 minutes before. The shot definitely describes her and her feeling at the moment very well. This is one of my few attempts at any portrait style shooting so I appreciate any and all comments left here.

Oh how well I know how she feels. I've had one climb that I just cannot finish (yet). I've gotten a few battle wounds of my own. I like what you did with her portrait.

Very nice. I like her pose, it's interesting and a bit unconventional. You can tell what kind of person she is by her clothing and her attitude. I like how her feet point out one direction and her sightline the other. I have a couple of small criticisms: the light looks pretty even from UL. I think you should have waited till her face was more toward the camera, simply because of the deep dark line that has formed on her left cheek. And the other thing is very small, I think I would have framed this tighter on the left. Just a bit, it has a slight bit of that 'too-much-space' feel.
