I did tentatively try a crop, but ended up leaving as is because I couldn't decide on it. Every time I look at the photo since, I think that a crop would really have helped things as you say.
I find this shot, awesome, because of the framing, and especially its overall cold color tones, perfectly compensated by the woman's jacket. The only thing, that I would still modify, would be e little more crop from below, keeping only the wet sand part.
