Danie jou wetter! hoeveel het daardie lens gekos. Brilliant photo, brilliant execution, worth all the frames that you must have wasted to get one perfect. Once again. absolutely brilliant! Quick question? Where did you take this? In SA or overseas?

Photographer's Comments

In response to viewer comments, here is a bit more info on this image.

Submitted pic because of the near inpossibility of getting this type of shot. Through an 800mm lens (manual focus), they flash in and out of focus so quickly that you fire purely on instinct. Because they take different lines through the corner, you also have to track them, which with the bulk of the lens is less than easy.
As you are picking them up closer to you, you start off with a viewfinder full of blur, which then becomes smaller and sharper as they get away from you, which is much harder than when they come towards you, small at first, getting bigger and bigger as they approach.
When you get one in the screws it is technically very gratifying.

Really like the cropping - enhances the contrast between the track and red bike/suit. The wheel is blurred, so obviously he's not stationary. The road is not blurred, so I don't think you panned. Did you prefocus on the spot on the track? Nice capture.

Just wonderful! I love the lighting, the colors, the sharpness, and the way you captured the action. An 800mm with the 1.5x cropping factor of the D1 makes for one heck of a long lens, too.

And nice to see another motorsports shooter on here.

Good action shot. I like the difference between the dull road and the vivid outfit.

Love the color in this, and of course, the lightning fast shutter speed that captured it. Well that is, unless you propped the guy up on a tripod or something.. :)

I saw your other photos too.. All are great. It would be cool to see that guy coming at you as well.
