Hi markus, Very strong similarity, the drift ice does create very similar structures to the salt flats in death valley.
Great shot, too, beautiful tones, and I like the strength of the leading line, excellent!

Salut, Drilan! We have been on the northern edge of the lake, the closest to Vienna. There is some interesting information in Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neusiedler_See) and on the German page you see a satellite photograph.
It's called here the sea of the Viennese and it's surrounded by great wineries.

Salut Markus! hier c'était l'anniversaire de mon plus jeune: 25 ans, et j'ai passé tout droit sur les commentaires je crois. Super belle photo et je voulais vous demander à quel bout du lac vous étiez car j'ai été voir cette merveille sur la carte pour la situer car je ne connaissais pas son existence (je suis ignare vous le savez)

Thanks, Kathy. It's been cold for a while now, but the Russian temperatures started only about two weeks ago. But then it was around 0 Fahrenheit. This forms are built when the ice is still moving and driven by the wind.
