Thank you Susie. I like this site, lots of nice folks. Maybe I'll get lucky here and not get flamed too often.

Thanks Brian, I am an old dog and always eager to learn new tricks. Retirement from a non-photographic working life has put me in the mood to create and I appreciate your comments and help. Phil

Thanks Roger, scaling ocurred to me as well. Not many people have seen these formations but there are roads all over the place in this area. Tomorrow I'll post one that has a road in it for scale. I can tell you that the tallest of these pinnacles are around 300' above the valley floor and the mountains in the background are in the 5000' elevation range.

welcome phil ,dont know if we can teach an ol pro new tricks ,but i think a vertical frame shot would give you more impact bringing the sky depth and landscape distant view into balance nicely. all the same a nice shot that has moon feel to it.

Thanks Ann, I've lived near here for over 50 years and, believe it or not, this is only my second visit, the first with a camera and probably not my last. The soda ash plant has been there for longer than you or me and they use coal, which is a bad fouler of the air, however, the product is necessary for many things we take for granted. The desert is a hard place to shoot becasue of the brightness and sand, so I use filters and I use Photoshop.

Welcome to Usefilm! This is a great start... what a beautiful and arresting scene. The only thing I miss is something by which I could judge the scale... a back-packer trekking into the area, maybe?

You've captured nice colour for this area Phil. All my images of this place are somewhat washed out due to the vast expanses of the desert. I know this place well having been there a number of times. A fascinating place the Trona Pinnacles. Too bad about that factory in Trona fouling the air making it hard to breathe some days. You were lucky to get a nice interesting sky on this day. Beaut shot.
Cheers - Ann :)
