About	Even with a lot of fat for insulation, the California Sea Lions need to occasionally come out of the water due to core heat loss. They are frequently seen along the coast on rocks or the beach sleeping and sunning. Where this group was located, I was able to stand within 5-6 feet of them to photograph. It didn't take much to wake them up so I was ready for a hasty retreat if needed.
