I had not seen this before and I must agree with John -- I do not think that nature should always be improved with artificial props. I would love to hang this on my wall!

Beautiful shot Bonnie. This shot is excellent just the way you shot it. Running around with "black clothes" and "neutralizing" the background would make this nothing more than an artificial studio shot. The repetition of the leaves adds tension and drama. The composition is just perfect. You followed the rule of thirds just right. "Centering" (Bulls-eye syndrome) would total destroy the image. The colors are of the background are great and the shadow shifting to lavender compliments the yellow hues in the palmetto.

Love the colors in this one. I shall have to remember detlef's advice myself tho. I love taking pictures of flowers and the background is always "busy". Thanks detlef for reminding me of something I had already told myself just the other day. Bonnie had you had your solid background I might like to add to center the palmetto as well and the lighting no fault in that adds "cool" to this image. (My expression of something "cool"... "Cool lighting".)

Glad you didn't resist. Never resist! But please go back to this subject matter again. Detlef's point is spot on. The busy background spoils an otherwise great shot.
