About This image was taken this morning around 7 am
on the way to work at starbucks

is there too much clutter in the picture?
Are the tones ok?

I know it should be higher at eye level

but im too short about 148 cm
so no way I could have taken it at eye level
unless I went on a chair

then everyone else in the line would had killed me

you know how people r before there morning coffee >rolling eyes<

It's a GREAT company to work for - they give you 1 lb. of coffee for free/week. That's a lot of coffee! They really treat their people well too. :) BUT you should try the Grande Carmel Breve Latte (latte with 1/2 & 1/2 instead of milk) for something REALLY decadant. :)

WOW!
So you know how to make a caramel macchiato (spelling?)

It would be so cool to work there as part time! :)

thank you for the comment chery :)

arwa - you ROCK! I love this shot - excellent DOF and it's my favorite place to crash. I used to work for them, so that's saying something. :)

I have looking a time know to your photographs. And your photographs beams of a elegance and Beauty .

But I think that the story of that which you photograph and the suroundings of it ,the stories of the image tell's, and not only that which you want to see on the photograph . Just as the photograph "early mornings ate starbucks"

If I look at the picture I focus myself immediately on that person through which the rest of the photograph less inetersting appears.

But you have real fantastic portfolio.

And I hoope you will see my pictures to give me sume feedback.

Arwa,

I like the tones in this image actually... and I don't think it's too cluttered. You chose a DOF that was appropriate to handle the cups/mugs in the foreground so I think it works fine.

I do like the expression on the man's face and the overall image has a very *commercial* feel to it. I'm sure the coffee seller in question would be very happy with your rendition -- even though I personally think the brand is a bit over-rated ;o)

One thing I think, if you are open to suggestions, a little crop just near the very top... it may help position the man and remove the subject immediately behind the board in perhaps a way to direct the eyes to the main areas of the image.

Overall, very nicely done.

All the best.

Gidday Arwa.
Fascinating process this issn't it, arranging elements in the frame.
I think Hugo had something really useful to offer in his crop. When I read your request for comments my eye was drawn to the area in the front for some reason and I think Hugo has identified an area for improvement there.
We are closer to him without the vaguely defined barrier which may have been a window or anything in my imagination.
Excellent shot. I'd love to take more on the street as you are it's hard to pluck the courage.

Congrats on your award, super shot, I too get frustrated sometimes at my height [barely 5ft], but I guess we also get things from different angles that are interesting because of it.
I love angle on this. I think my lighthouse shot angle was because it looked to huge that I wanted to capture it from myperpestive. Have looked at your portfolio there are some wonderful compositions. Margaret

Luckily it's a coffee bar otherwise they wouldn't serve you (but I don't think you have bars that serve liquor there anyway) LoL. I think this eye view is fine - after all it is your eyeview! Nice portrait!

Arwa this is absolutely brilliant. Perhaps you should print this out, frame it and take it back to Starbucks. If they do not buy it off you they will surely provide with free coffee for a year !
It really does look great !

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Hi Arwa, don't worry about being too short, the main thing is that your legs reach the ground :)
Nice photo, good toning and a nice smile from your subject. The answer to your question on my photo is "i don't know..." I do very little post processing prefering to keep things as they were at the time, i do no cloning and certainly don't need to increase the saturation. I guess it's just a good camera (Canon G5). I'm happy with it for the moment. I do pay attention to the exposure though, often on manual, and EV corrections are common place. Thanks for the comment and best wishes from Switzerland.
Neil

Thanx Hugo
I never thought about cropping it!
see this one of the best things about usefilm :) after every comment the poster can get a fresh eye or look at his her picture
Less white blurred background with out the thing hanging from the mans head and the crop its almost perfect now!!!!
Thank you!

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 7/4/2004
Hi Arwa, Here's one I really like. Very expressive portrait, and well toned. I read Rawabi's comment, and I agree that a blur in the background makes this portrait even a bit more stronger.

I like the idea of coffee, great advertisement fr a nice, steaming hot cup...) I don't quite agree you should've taken this at eye level, as the low camera position also blocks part of this mans' body, framing him with the cups. The only thing that you could've changed is to crop off the edge of the counter. And In the process, I thought I'd try to remove some of the white in the background to, not only to balance the shot (once more) but also to make it a little less cluttered.

Nonetheless an excellent emotive shot. Very well captured!

Cheers,

Hugo

Rawabiiiiiiiiii ur just as sweet as can be!!!! Thank you sooo much for your time and effort
LOL the thing sticking from the guys head I didn?t notice that!! it
Looks brilliant I love how the blur made the guy stand out more
About selling it to starbucks guess its not allowed to take pic with out their permission how could I sell it then :P

THANK YOU!!!

  0

Rawabi Al-Nuaimi   {K:15659} 7/4/2004
wow Arwa this shot is simply gorgeous.. the guy is a photographer's dream cuz obviously the camera loves him....!!!! you'd better sell this pic to starbucks for advertisement.. GORGEOUS! :)
i hope you don't mind but i love so much that i tried editing it myself..!!! :P
what i did is that i blurred the right part of the background.. then blurred the whole background.. added a little contrast (+2) to give the pic more chocolate and coffee colors but don't affect the amazing shadows.. and finally i cut the thing in the background that looks like it's sticking from the guy's head.. i colored that area with a color close to the surrounding colors then used the smudge tool to mix the colors.. tell me what you think :-D

  0

Amna Al Shamsi   {K:21795} 7/4/2004
what a smile you got here, Excellent capture and tone. The only thing to be improved here is the shadow on his face, I will try to do it for you and send u the pic (am stuck at work again)
do not worry about being short we are in the same boat lol!

GREAT PICTURE...and he is loving it also!
And of course how could one resist STARBUCKS!!

I'm an avid coffee drinker, (not all day long) but extremely picky. I MUST have good coffee, and half and half, NOT milk!!

I like the sepia tones,
Lori :)

I like this perspective/angle & view thru the cups, Arwa. A nice smile on him as well, also the color wash perfectly compliments the subject matter.
