Yes, they do look fascinating. Especially for taking photos from there.

The water is indeed very brrrrrr when it has this color. The white parts are not only wave bubbles but also swimming snow mass. So no chance for me either to jump in there ;-)

Take care,

Nick

Hi Olga!

Thank you for your nice comment! Were you living somewhere around, or were you here on vacations?

Yes it is Lake Lucerne, the Vierwaldstättersee, the Lake of the four forest countries, Uri, Unterwalden, Schwyz, and Lucerne, one of the cleanest lakes of that size in the world.

It was here where the three Cantons, Uri, Unterwalden and Schwyz swore faith for ever to each other at 1291, trying to become an free land against the wishes of the mighty Habsburger, and becoming the first cell of independence. Farmers and villagers against kings and organized armies - how often did we have that in Europe? ;-) It is here where the roots of Switzerland lie, though it was first at 1648 when Switzerland was acknowledged as an independend country and was "dismissed" from the Reich. The years inbetween were more or less a fight from freedom.

How awful it is to see that a new kind of kings, the banks with all their power, are close to becoming the new absolute rulers of this country.

But thanks heavens, you can still smell freedom in the air, when you just sit on some high place and look far away.

Take care and plan a visit again! Any hey, what about a UF-meeting here around?

Although the caves are not natural made by a long geological process, they still look inviting and fascinating to one who loves spooky caverns:-)The water looks fantastic and ready for us UF-members to go swimming. Is it cold though being so bright green? Snow from the mountains? Then I´ll pass:-)
Take care,
Annemette

Hi Andre!

The story that I know might be also very interesting for any (hypothetical) participant of a (hypothetical) UF-meeting here.

I don't really know if these caves are all natural. At least I think that most of them are artificial. But the interesting thing is, that behind the openings there is a street which goes through all of them though the rock, following the shape of the lake. This has been the road that was connecting towns and villages around the lake, but later on another road was made, that allowed for more cars and greater speed. The old road that goes (also but not only) through the rock was given free for bicycles and pedestrians. It is a very long route that starts in Hergiswil (I think) and goes for miles and miles up to the other side of the lake, and always keeps as close as possible to the water.

Now, imagine a bike tour with a camera and enough storage capacity for photos! Wow!

Take care,

Nick
