Emanuele, Imran, Jacques, Susan, Michael>>> Thank you all for your kind comments. This is an update of a shot I posted on in August 2006, which had color balance problems that I could never get quite right until now. I think I've finally gotten it right. I love my Olympus E-500 but it does have a reputation for having auto white balance problems at low light levels....

This one is more mysterious, I like coming back to this one because the composition is so strong with he central shaft of light. Color appears OK overall, with some blue daylight creeping in from the right. Another major difference if I look at the two side by side is this one has more contrast, with the shaft appearing all while while the other seems to have a little bit of smoky detail.

Ok, I've uploaded the new color balance, and I tonemapped it also. This is much more the way I remember it. Let me know what you think.

I've learned my lesson- don't correct for color on a laptop LCD - good luck. The canyon is probably a great candidate for HDR.

Actually, I'm doing it myself as we speak, but I've discovered a ton of dust on the image that I hadn't noticed before, so it's taking a little time.

The direction it's going is away from your balance, however...as my memory serves me, the rocks and the ambient light weren't that red, were much more yellow/sand colored.

I'd only had my new Olympus setup about a month when I took these photos, and since then I've learned a lot about the white balance idiosyncrasies of this camera. I may take another shot at this site this summer.

Actually, I'm doing it myself as we speak, but I've discovered a ton of dust on the image that I hadn't noticed before, so it's taking a little time. And I was distracted by moving to a new apartment, a trip to Kenya and Tanzania...you know, the usual stuff.

Michael - I thought the original was pretty good, until I saw your remix! Now it looks superb. Hope Tom took you up on your offer (or tried it himself).
