Best salutations.

It's my monitor, I looked at it on another computer to verify. Too bad for me, I guess.
The silhouettes were what I was "shooting" for. I have another I'll post soon. I took two pictures at that spot.

Thanks for the comments and congrats on your respective awards.

This is lovely. I like the balance of the trees and hill on either side. The sky is very pretty.

Perhaps try a tighter crop with the limb entering the frame lower left and take out some of the vine or the light object to the left rear. This has potentional. Dwight

This is a very good record shot, but the composition lacks excitement. The out-of-focus leaves on the right are a distraction, and as a result the composition struggles. The chooped off flower on the left doesn't help either. The flowers might have worked better with a panoramic crop, as they are in a row. Get yourself a digital camera and you can experiment with the composition more easily. I took about 20 of the exact same type of clematis on a Canon 10D until I was happy with the composition.

I like the scene, but I think it should be a little bit lighter. Perhaps also cropping some off of the top to eliminate some of the dead space of sky.

I agree with jim . More contrast and a bit less sky. now if the sky was blue and full of clouds or a very contrasty stormy sky then keep it. But the old " Leadened, or grey " sky offers nothing to the image. The Camera you have is a great workhorse.

I think the most notable thing apparent to me at first glance is that your scan is in need of contrast and level adjustment. It appears very washed out. After making these adjustments I find the color and saturation of your image really bring this scene to life. I think the overcast sky helps provide an even exposure which you've nailed. I think compositionally you can do with out much of the grey sky above the rocks.

Hi Jason,
Even with the 'nasty green matting' (as per your words!! LOL) It turned out fine, pretty color flower, have never seen one like this.

Nice image,

I'm sure there's a lot of bird crap on that rock, although I think it's really reflections or "shine".
I just noticed how "un-finished" this pic is. It was a scan from a print and I never used any PS USM or Levels on it. And it's so small.

>>Someone mentioned in the forums that titles are worthless, that the pictures should speak for themselves. This photo and title proves that that theory is weak, at best. <<

Hey, I'm with you, Jason, I like titles and I like this one as well as your photo! :-) It shows you have a healthy sense of humor.

The low-angle sunlight really lights up the pansies and shows off the texture in the foreground bench, the soil under the bench, and the walkway.

I liked the way you included the long bench on the other side of the walkway but thew it out of focus. It adds to the likeable, off-kilter look of the photo. I really love the dandilion(?) growing out of the bench!

Thanks for your kind comments on my "Ménage á Frog"!

Best regards,

Documenting I suppose. I too am trying to discover my "style", if that's what you mean. I've been going through and cataloging all the rolls of film I have taken over the years, currently at '97, and I've noticed that up until then at least I've been taking pictures of things I find interesting, without any thought of capturing a feeling, mood or viewpoint. That's the tricky part.
I can totally see what you're talking about as far as it looking like an alien playing golf.
Alas, it's not possible for me to enjoy all that Marin has to offer anymore. Someday...

From the thumbnail I thought it was an alien playing golf. It's always tricky photographing someone else's art. Are you simply faithfully documenting it or are you injecting it with your own soul/viewpoint? This is something I have to ask myself often with my own work. Keep up the good work and have a burritto for me @ Lucinda's in Tiburon(Mill Valley?).

It's native to California, has neat flower "candles" in late spring. Has massive seeds that send out creepy roots when they germinate. Also known as Horse chestnut or Aesculus californica.

I tried to respond earlier with a link but it didn't show up.

AKA California Horsechestnut
Aesculus californica
Here's a link to a description.
http://www.mostlynatives.com/notes/aesculuscalifornica.htm

With the right conditions they put on a beautiful show of flower "candles" in late spring.
Do a google image search and look for a pic of the seed. They're a little bigger than a golf ball and they put out a creepy looking root when they germinate.
