Thanks for your comment, Ciana. I agree with your statement about the background; I'll keep that in mind the next time I shoot an event like this!

The backdrop serves as the perfect compliment for the subject. Very nice shot.

Impressive! That makes me want to visit Arizona. Thanks for the information on the filter.

Fantastic capture! If you don't mind me asking... aside from correcting for lens distortion and resizing, did you manipulate this image in any way? If not, did you use any lens filters?
Keep up the good work! Paul

I really like the way this came out, it reminds me of a weathered postcard dating from the early 1900s. I'm curious as to what process you used to get this look if you don't mind sharing.
Gotta love the Netherlands... heading there on Sunday with my new camera!

Looks like you caught this one right at the beginning of the 'golden hour'. I like how you took the shot at a slight angle to exaggerate the angle of the slopes. Wonderful capture of a beautiful place.

As the saying goes... good art provokes thought. Thanks for sharing this image - it certainly got me thinking. Well done.

I like the feeling in this shot - especially in the clouds. And you can almost feel the cold sand between your toes. I think it would have been more effective if you would have picked either the sky or the shoreline as the dominate feature when you were placing your horizon (rule of thirds), although I see what you were trying for with the 'symmetry'. I'm curious as to what lens filter you used for this capture.

Beautiful shot. Perhaps the reduced resolution is contributing to this somehow, but I think the only thing I might have tried differently (assuming there was enough light available) is that I would have shot it with the lens stopped down just a hair more to get a bit more depth of field. Your DOF is so shallow that the tail (which is perfectly sharp) is clearer than the head of the bird. Otherwise, the composition, angle of the shot and the colors are fantastic. Congratulations!

I like the lighting in this shot.
You might think about giving your car a coat of wax though - the shape of the water beads are saying it's overdue!

Thanks so much for the kind comments. This was shot with a Nikon Coolpix 5700, which I am hoping to replace soon with a digital SLR.
As for Amsterdam... what a wonderful city. I'll be going back in May - hopefully with a new camera!

Thanks Ahmed. I used NeatImage to clean up some of the noise my CCD put in there, and then cropped it about 10% to remove a light post that was cutting into the left corner. Aside from that it's raw as far as I remember.
I was pretty surprised by the relative sharpness of the image, considering that I was holding the camera in my shaking hands (the lens was open at least 1/4 second here). Unfortunately my built-in lens sometimes creates a rather distorted image, and this shot in particular could probably use some fixing!
Thanks again for your comments.

Thanks for your comment, Paul. I'll have to play with Photoshop a bit to see if I can restore detail as you suggest. Are there any simple tricks you know of off-hand to do this effectively?

I love the eyes, but most of all I am drawn to her natural expression. The warm color tone works well with this image. Nice work.

I totally agree with you about the tree, and was frustrated with it when I shot this. Unfortunately there was an obstruction to my right (and left!) so I wasn't able to re-position for a better shot. Thank you for your comments!
