The focus draws attention to the main subject ... the out-of-focus background people add to the overall sadness of the moment ... IMO, I don't think they are distracting at all. At any rate, a very powerful photo. BTW, excellent color decisions.

Incredible clarity ... good DOF ... superb color saturation ... correct color mode for web display ... great cropping as well ... even the subject looks perfect ... not tattered and worn out ... please leave SOMETHING for us to critique every now and then

I'll bet this photo is worth money ... you might consider trying to sell the image and / or the copyright. This looks to be a very young deer.

Very nice shot!

good luck

What lens and zoom power were you using? ... defocus area looks smooth! good exposure control with a backlit situtation. What mode were you in? ev compensation?

great shot! Colorful little guy

Oh my gosh! Nailed it! Solid! Crisp! Good shutter selection Wonderful ... I too have struggled with a good hummer shot.

My hat's off to you on this one.

Upper background too distracting from main subject? anyone else agree?

Nice work, good exposure of the snow!

I like ...

The observer's eye moves from the darks to the lighted areas continuously ... holds the observers interest. Very Nice!

I see what you're going for here ... very good attempt ... personally I've always liked back lit subjects which are thin enough to let light shine through ... shows a bit of translucense, and therefore, describes another aspect of the subject. I do agree that the center mass of flowers is still a tad too dark and that if you lightened a little more, then you loose the translucense you may be going for ... try a fill flash, but be careful not to let the flash be as bright as the main light from the back.

very nice attempt.

Wonderful subject, excellent crop ... love the translucence ... color and light are a tad too harsh for my personal taste.

nice job!

Second the comment about fairytale atmosphere! Make me thing that one of the main characters of Lord of the Rings is about to walk onto the scene at any moment.

Love this photograph. Wonderful lighting!

Okay ... now that is perspective to the extream ... excellent exposure ... I see difficulty with handling two vastly different types of light sources.

well done!

Hi Suzanne, I love macros ... this is another great one.

Nice job!

BTW, I visited your website ... excellent job there as well. I can tell you have excellent working knowledge of color gamuts and layout design.

well framed, makes the image look larger than it is on the web. I like the way the image fades out at the edges to match the outer frame. Wonderful subject

Artie,

Curious ... would you consider it cheating to photoshop those "fly away" hairs out. The source image is digital. Thanks for your response in advance.

Much better than the B & W pose ... Watch out for softbox reflection in the eyes. Good ratio of lighing on face. well done.

I clicked on to see the collection, and this was the only photo that I saw which wasn't rated yet ... so I rated it. This may sound weird, but one of the best things I like about this photo is the "About" comment, ( which could have easily been the title to the photograph ). The ability to project to the other's viewpoint is a powerful tool to a portrait photographer. I can tell from many of the posted baby portraits that this is certainly a tool you've used well.

I'd say this photo has the perfect DOF, It's CRYSTAL where it needs to be and fades out where it should to demonstrate the magnification. Good Isolation!!! I personally rated this photo as perfect ( because I love macros ).

I enjoy portraits, this caught my eye well enough to stop and leave a comment. Nice work. I'm no expert on portraits, and it's easier to comment on one than take a good one ( for me anyway ). Improvements here: face looks too "posed" and not natural. In this photograph, subject looking off from camera is a tad unsettling. Nice work, otherwise.
