Thanks for your comments Jan. As for the white speckles, they are seabirds taking shelter on the rock stack from the approaching storm.

Hi Peta,

Sorry, NZ is the place for me ;-)

Spent 3 months in Australia a few years back. Some wonderful places, but then I went to NZ straight after and was bowled over by it. Still I would like to return to Oz, mainly Tasmania where I havent yet been.

Hi Peta,

Sorry only just picked up your comment. I have actually just been down your end of the world. Been in NZ the last 3 weeks. Had a great time, and got a few shots. No plans for Australia at the moment though. Where abouts are you in Oz?

Both were the same focal length - 22mm. I have a feeling I fixed the other horizon as somebody previously commented about it on another site. So maybe it is wonky - but the strange thing is - if you put a line over the horizon - its only the far left that seems wonky. The rest looks dead straight to me. Maybe its the curve of the lake side? Dunno, but its certainly not too much to worry about.

Hi Jim,

I have another landscape shot of this subject matter exactly as you had described; I placed the root on the left. I think I prefer this shot, which while breaking the convention I think on this occasion is more artistic. Still I have attached the other one for you to see.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your kind comment. The horizon itself is straight - I think there is a slight bend on the far left which is resulting from barrel distortion from the wide angle.

Thanks again,
Adam.

Hi Rob,

Thanks to you and everyone else for your kind comments. This was taken just after sunrise in mid October, just a few days before the road closed for the winter. I had been up here a few days before and captured it without snow. I decided to make one more visit before the road closed and was rewarded with this beautiful dusting of snow.

Many thanks everybody for your kind comments, and to the site editors for my awards. I REALLY appreciate these comments so much.

To answer some questions, I focused on the nearby rocks.

Yes, I was very happy to catch the rainbow, it is pretty much the first rainbow I have caught. But other than that I just thought I had captured another shot that I was pleased with. I certainly didnt think this shot was my best from the trip, and yet its amassed alot of attention, so I guess I will be hard pressed to beat it with my next upload. But I will try ;-)

Thanks again all for making my weekend.

Thanks,
Adam.

Thanks,
Adam.

Thanks for your comments folks. This was taken about 30 mins after sunset. The exposure was 5 secs at F18 and I used a .9 & .3 nd grad to balance the sky with the darker foreground.

Thanks again,
Adam.

Crikey, Ive just read my technical bits above. Something must have gone slightly wrong!! The film is Velvia 50 and type, obviously 35mm slide.

Sorry if I confused anybody.

Thanks for your comments.

very impressive sarah. the texture you've captured in the petals is excellent, as is the lighting. maybe the focus is a little soft, but this could be the effect you wanted. i think it looks very good against the black background - is this a straight capture or have you darkened the background in photoshop? either way, it worked! the only things i could suggest is to (a) use a smaller aperture for more depth of field, and (b) maybe next time try to get a smaller third flower in bloom as the other two are. well done, Adam.
