Joe: Love these little females too. We have two or three pair right now and we are hoping they are steady residents for the summer. Thanks again for your comments on my birds. We're going to (way)upstate NY in July so hope to see some of the northern birds then.

Dave: Thanks for the kind words. This was a grab shot as the bird did not stay on the stick for long. It was good to be doing the "Back Deck" series again. We are waiting for the migrants to come through so we can send them on up to you.

Hey Joe: Great shot! Love these little guys. We get these and the Mountain Chickadees and they are quite different in their habits. Thanks for your comments on my chickadee.

Guy: I think you have a Ruby-Crowned Kinglet there. They are widespread in North America although we don't get them in the mountains here. You caught this little male with his crest up. It's hard without the crest erected to tell what they are.

I am always fascinated by the patterns in the feathers. Beautiful image. Thank you for commenting on my finch. I am happy to entertain your young grandchild.

Gordon: I was in Valleta in 1967. Lovely city. I imagine it has changed considerably since then. Thank you for your constructive criticism. Perhaps I shall spot out the twig.

Joe: Thank you again. I liked the yellow/blue complement in this one. They all look very serious don't they?

Joe: Thank you. Perhaps the 1/2000 second exposure time helped as this tiny bird was extremely agitated. The sun was nearly directly behind me as well.

Gabriela: Thank you again for your lovely words. This combination of Florida bird and Colorado mountain skies is a favorite of mine. I thought this beautiful bird deserved more than the monotonous background I found it in front of. Cherubs would have been appropriate for the bird was flying near its nesting partner at the time of this capture. I am enjoying your portfolio very much. It is beautiful.

Gabriela: Thank you for your kindness. All of my birds are, in fact, prima donnas. They are quite haughty sometimes concerning my intrusions. I do like to portray them as I see them.

James: Tenuous chiaroscuro indeed. How's that for obfuscation? I don't know that I can afford a hotel in San Francisco to try this sort of imaging but if you think it's necessary?

James: They can move in almost any direction but I attract them with a small feeder which they will back out of and pose for me. The feeder is out of the frame at the left.

James: Yes, it's chicken wire and the brown sugar color is cut ends of lodgepole pine logs. I will be attempting to shoot in this garden again this summer but, since it is at 10,000 feet of elevation, the flowers don't come up until very late. This is a favorite of mine but the clearer shots sell better, of course.

Holy cow, James: Thank you for all the kind remarks heaped upon my little birds and such. Actually, my best selling image was shot with my old D60 four years ago. I do love the 1D series though and find it much easier to get the shots with it.

Thank you, you are very gracious and I appreciate your comments very much. In my previous post, I could not get this site to print in Japanese. That is the reason for the long line of question marks.

Dave: We had never seen them except singly or in the company of Red-Winged Blackbirds previously. It was such a neat thing to have them come through just as we were leaving. Thanks for your comments.
