Thanks for the comment. You're probably right about the crop. I'll try that out!

Lovely capture. It makes me think of hidden enchanted pools where lonely adventures see their destiny, face, future, or perhaps an equally lonely, yet kissable frog. Given the change I don't think I would have been able to resist the urge to play with the reflections. Very nice.

Beautiful capture of reflection and light. It is both peacful and full of energy.

I see what you mean. I agree, I need something to bring out her eyes. The little dog sticking out it's tongue in your picture is totally adorable and hilarious BTW. Very Cute! Thanks for the suggestion.

That is really beautiful. I love the tones and rich detail. The framing is excellent. Good work!

Only a small peice of ice...yet it shimmers like a fine jewel, all the more lovely for the understanding that it's unique beauty will be slowly dissolved by the sun's light which is what gives it it's wonderful luster. I am really attracted to your work and the apprecitive eye you have for simple beauty in all things which most people would ignore.

This really is quite beautiful and intersting. The "imperfections" in the ice, the various debris, is what impresses the reality of the image and is what makes it so attractive. Very good.

What a rather unique image! Is it on a wall? On a floor? It's impossible to tell. I like how you used the emptiness around the subject as it draws more attention to it...makes it almost impossible to look away from. I find I am curious as to the nature of the pattern on the teapot. Is it a cityscape, or something else altogether. I've been told to avoid centering a subject, but I think it rather works for this particular image. Good work!

My first thought upon seeing this image "Wow. Neat." Great perspective, but what really attracts me to this image is the originality of the color/BW effect. It seperates and defines this image. Quite good!

Lovely, rich dark tone. I love the lighting and the old bottles on the counter. The colorization is perfect for the mood.

So beautiful and yet so creepy. The color and clarity are stunning. I love the sky background. Extra points of bravery for getting under that thing. *shudder*

Now THAT is simply adorable. I love how the quality of the tones make this image seem as something from the 1950's. The angle is perfect. With such a sweet face to shoot you must find it hard not to reach for your camera every 5 minutes.

Amazing. The colors and tones are simply marvelous. I imagine those gnarled branches as the twisted, grasping arms of the damned reaching for life. This image stimulates the imagination.

Wow. I get woozy even thinking about attempting such a shot. Magnificant angle, and colors. Incredible bravery too! This is a truly stunning image.

I love shooting storm drains! There's something so dark and mysterious about them. This capture in particular is quite attractive. I like the way the reflection in the water enhances the symmetry of the image, enhancing each portal so that it is complete. The contrast of light/shadow in the water which allows for the clarity of the reflections adds much to the appeal. I think that while the moment might have enhanced the beauty of this photo, the perfectly composed angle of the shot is what makes it great. Excellent work!

Awesome... What a gritty, emotional capture! The heavy shadows on the face enhance the overall mood of the scene, and are not distracting as facial shadows often can be. I find myself continuing to be drawn to this image, and more and more curious as to the story behind it. Wonderful.

Wow! A very intense, real portrait. I love the pose, and setting. The tone of the photo makes it possible to connect with the individual in the scene, capturing emotion. Very, very good.

Wonderul, creative shot! I love the creativity and unusual "pose of the photographer". In the small I saw only the photographer, bent over his camera. I didn't see the film until I saw the larger version. Quite excellent!

in a word...wow. I'd love to know the story behind this shot. My only suggestion would be to crop the balcony from the top of the frame and reduce the contrast so the details of the headdress are not lost. Overall, very good image.

I don't know if it is considered rude to give away another's tecnique, but I do know how this effect was achieved, and since this IS a learning site...

I can be done using Adobe Photoshop, with the Eye Candy 2000 "Weave" filter applied. Standard ribbon width and gap size increased, as well as shadow amount increased. Thread detail reduced to 0%.

Here is a photo of my own that I have altered in a similar manner. It is not as sharp and image, but you get the general idea.

Well it's actually kind of embarrassing, I just discovered a focusing feature I was totally unaware of...Doh! Ironically, I already know more about the camera I want...the Nikon D70, than I did about the camera I already have. I'm correcting that little over-sight, though.

First I want to say that I have been an admirer of your work since I joined Use Film. You really have produced some incredible photographs!

This picture is compositionally, very interesting. The child and the cat form almost a yin-yang symbol with the fluid harmony of the symmetry between them. Their poses are very similar. Hands(paws), and feet showing. Faces half hidden. Their postures reflect peace, relaxation, trust. It's very beautiful!

The only suggestion I might offer is to reduce the contrast on the cat because the texture of her fur is somewhat lost in the shadow.

"making an appealing photo out of an ordinary (or even 'ugly') subject is where the fun and challenge begins"

The trouble is...when I am in "seeing" mode...when I'm looking at the world with still capture isolation...everything...every little thing seems beautiful. I am hopelessly captivated by textures, lines, and shadows. I have to be careful not to do this while driving or be in danger of running off the road. In public places it must seem strange to others when I pause in fascination at the cracks in a sidewalk, or stare in wonder at the trembling leave of a stray weed. The challenge I find is capturing things how I see them. To somehow create a photograph which expresses my reverence for the simple exquisite beauty I've found is my goal...and one I find I fall sadly short of many times. I hope that in time, I shall improve.

I can tell you that I've learned something new about my camera, and from now on, my photos will be a lot sharper. yay!
