Cliff, thanks for the explanation. Hope you don't mind these questions as I very much want to understand myself how to get photos like this You mention the soft focus. How do you apply that to this photo? It is an affect I like very much and would love to be able to do it with some of my shots.

This is a beautiful photo! I like the softness to it overall. What steps did you take to get this kind of effect (in Photoshop)? I really like it!

Cliff: Thanks for the tip. I figured it had to be something like that -- its very difficult to add such a perfect background in the computer. I do something similar on some of my pictures but I use colored construction paper and it's not as steady as plywood. I'll have to try it your way.

Wonderfully gentle and detailed shot. Very well done, close to a seven , those wonderful colours!
Only point of critique would be that the frame is a little close and oppressing to this beauty!

REALLY great picture. The twisted petal really adds to the "unfurling/unveiling" effect. Focus is absolutely spot on.

Hi Lydia thank you for your kind comments the black background is a sheet of plywood painted with blackboard matt black. All my photographs are taken with natural daylight through a window. If you are thnking about trying this don't forget to angle the board's trailing edge away slightly so the light doesn't fall on the board only the flowers this should give you a perfect black. Look forward to your posts
kind regards

What a wonderful shade of blue. I'm just blown away by your flower pictures -- they're all so elegant. I really enjoyed looking through your portfolio.

May I ask about how you achieve the black background. Do you "pose" the actual flowers in front of something black or do you add the black background in the computer after you've taken the picture? Thanks.
