Very nice composition. Don't kids have luxurious eyelashes?

Tjaart, I have admired all your photos of the Namibian desert posted on usefilm. I guess you were there during some of the rains this past summer (for you, winter for me). That must have been great to see the sky like that as well as the dunes and desert. I would like to go back and spend a few days there, only had half a day in June. Please do post any recent photos or tell me where to go to see them.

Thanks to you and everyone else, I am glad you enjoyed this image. I like to simplify a composition when possible.

I love this shot. The flamingos make a great background but are far enough away not to imterfere with the view of his majesty flying through. The fast shutter speed stops the action well. That piece of stuff just in front of the eagle is a slight distraction, could be cleaned up in photoshop. Great 3-dimensional quality.

Yes, I agree, everyone who has visited there has this shot or something similar; it is pretty hard to get somethting original there. But now I have a large scale, finely detailed print to put on my wall and look at daily, remembering the stark beauty of the desert.

I just checked out your portfolio. You have some great shots of animals and kids, I especially like the butterfly and the parrots. I used to raise parrots in the folly of my youth, had over fifty at one time.

The larger group is playing like they are a boat with the kids as passengers. The man on the right is s crocodile and as the boat goes by he will suddenly jump up and grab one of the children. They love the suspense waiting to see if they are going to be grabbed. Adults spend a lot of time with the children and these people ae touching each other much of the time, very sweet for the little ones.

Really nice, bird and flowers ae sharp, background is out of focus enough to be separate.

Nice shot but the foreground out of focus is distracting to me. Since you had it on a tripod why not try a small aperture to get all the plants in focus?

Don't get me wrong, I think it is a wonderful photo, I am always trying to find ways to improve my work and I figured since you put it on this page you wanted contructive criticism. It really is tough to judge such a delicate scene on the monitor.

Check it out on Google Earth at 24 deg 45 min 37.85 sec South by 15 deg 17 min 36.75 sec East. My shooting direction was actually west since it was in the morning and the sun was in the east. The view of Soussusvlei from Google Earth is fantastic, almost as good as on the ground.

Delightful, this takes me back to my youth along the beaches of the South Carolina coast, of course this could only be a sunrise photo there.

The bushmen or San people live the way they have lived for 50,000 years, at least some of them do. The grass hut is for sleeping in bad weather, they most often sleep outisde. The children stay with the adults from the time they can walk, working along side as best they can. The boys hunt with the men and learn tracking skills which are the best in the world. This boy spent 3-4 hours with his father and uncle making a rope out of tree bark and then using the rope to make a snare for game. He helped them and never complained or seemed bored the whole time. Both men and women usually wear only a skin around their waist as it is very hot most of the time. In the photo you can see a bow and quiver of arrows ( the cylinder) and also an ostrich egg hanging up used as a container for water.

Very nice photo. I don't suppose you could have included the very top of the tree in the frame? Could you have eliminated that blurry stuff on the left or is it part of the plan? It may look better in the print, it is hard to judge subtle details in a small computer screen image.

Great shot. There is a bit of convergence of the buildings, you could take that out in Photoshop if desired. The incomplete line in the bottom left corner is slightly distracting.

I like the way the focus on the childs face separates him/her from the adults so that the eye concentrates on the child.

I did increase the saturation very slightly to match the output of my printer but the sky is really that intense there in the Namibian desert in the winter looking north at that time of day. It is sometimes hard to beleive but that is how it looks.

I like the intense color and the contrast of the meter but the strip of dirt at the bottom is distracting. I guess you had it in there to include the bottom of the meter but if you could either remove it or make it a more meaningful part of the composition it could improve this, IMHO.
