About: I admire Nineteenth Century topographic photographers, and find that I still have the most to learn from them. I want to see images that do not get up on a soap box, that slip into the room and stand quietly waiting, not speaking until they're spoken to; that don't telegraph their punch lines when they tell a joke, and don't need a sound track: just black and white and gray, shot in available light; sharp focused, low contrast images, in an uncropped format. And I prefer photographs in sets; they are more likely to come to terms with a subject without sentimentalizing it, or making a stereotype of it. I like working on the problems of ordinary things.
