Photographer: Joe Carson  (Karma=86)

About: My interest in photography started over 25 years ago when my parents I bought my first point and shoot camera. Around the same time my father purchased a Canon A-1 and a dozen rolls of slide film. Our first vacation with dad's new toy was Yosemite. My brother and I complained that our dad took about 10 pictures of every subject and constantly pleased with him "C'mon Ansel Adams, we want to go fishing." Many years later, I realized that my father was bracketing his shots and for a manual focused camera, some of his Yosemite and Mammoth Lakes pics still look great today.

After playing with a few Sony digital cameras at work in the late 90's, I purchased my first digital camera, a Canon G3, in late 2002. In the summer of 2004 I purchased the Nikon D70 and I have been bit with the Nikon bug ever since. My photographer friends kept telling me that a good lens is more important than the camera - I realized that a good lens can cost much more than the camera when I purchased the 70 - 200 2.8 VR earlier this year.

My early interest has been landscapes and I am inspired by Ansel Adams and Galen Rowell (my Grandfather's brother was Galen's family MD). Recently I have been interested in "people pics" and I enjoy candid portraits. I am also beginning to experiment in infrared and panorama pics.

I grew up and went to college in the Bay Area and currently live in SoCal. My wife and I have family in the Bay Area, Napa and Sacramento. As a result, whether at home or visiting relatives, I have plenty of photo ops. Please visit my photo site at www.pbase.com/jpcarson. I am still an apprentice and feedback is always appreciated.
