Hi Eleisa, I can see what Ina is saying about blurring the background...and I think it would really make her pop from the image! This can also be accomplished by opening your aperature up some to get more dof when shooting. Looking good!

Beautiful portrait. I like that she's in a bit of a shadow and the background is in bright sunlight. Nice natural look. Good job.

Thanks again Ina. I tried the burn tool and I like that. Plus, it was easy :)

On second look, there IS some flying hair, so look on the net - there are some good tutorials on how to do this, without getting the "cutout" look. In any case, my idea was that she is dressed in muted colors, and the bkgrd is bright and it needs to fade and recede - both in sharpness and in color intensity. See what others think, this is my impression.

I'm not a PS expert, but the subject outline is simple enough (no flying hair) that you can select it with the magnetic lasso and then select "inverse" - and work on the background only. There's probably a better way with layers, but I haven't come that far...

Thanks for the advice Ina but how do I apply the things that you mentioned to the background only?

Thanks for the tip Margaret. I don't know much about Photoshop so I appreciate all the help I can get. I do like it with the burn.

Hi Eleisa, nice portrait in the shade! I somewhat agree with Margaret, the background is a bit overexposed, but I would fade it (lighten, desaturate and gaussian blur) because it competes with the subject in color intensity.

Eleisa Lovely smile and excellent portrait, like the pose the the flickers of light on her jumper. The background looks just a tiny bit over exposed and wondered if going over it with the burn tool would even up the colours, seee wht you think Margaret
