Hi Gabriela. Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like the B&W. Right now, I don't have my computer. I am not so good at comverting to B$W yet, but working on it. My hard drive died on my 3 month old computer. I can use my laptop for making comments. Right now, I can't get at my former picures. However, I did not lose them, so that's the good part.

Dear mary, this is a beautiful crop, very painterly! WHY did you not post the B&W version? The thumbnail you show below is too small to judge, unfortunately. I have the feeling that the B&W version might be quite a different picture. Please, do put it on! Thanks for the visit at MY flowers recently. Hope you had a smile on your face afterwards. Regards, Gabriela

This is so pretty Mary, I like the color one better, because you can see more of the subtle color changes. The stem that has lost its petals seems to be looking up at the beautiful bloom. Alison

Hi Mary! I don?t think it has lost too much quality. A beautiful crop indeed, and I think it fits in B&W as well! Good work!

Dear Mary, the coloured version is more sensuous(one can write an essay on what this floral expresses!), while the B&W is more elegant! But they are both GREAT!!! Gabriela

Great framing and composition, Mary. Well you can try it in BW, too, Mary, I can't determine whether it will be good or not. I think the quality doesn't lose at all, as long you didn't enlarge the pixels..:)

I think I prefer the B&W version Mary, it adds some character to the photo and helps you look past the slight loss of sharpness due to the close cropping. Either way, a great floral capture.

I have to admit, I like the B&W better, Mary. It has such muted tones, that I believe B&W enhances the details. There are so many flowers posted with red in them (mine included). In black and white, i think this shot is special.

See the bounty of the youth of this bloom and then in the bottom right the loss of such beauty. Almost looks like it's reaching to the empty bud. the black and white came out beautiful also.
This is a page that is commercial but does have some painting's by Georgia O'keef and a short biography.

Per me è migliore la versione colorata: il rosa del fiore si stagli contro il verde delle foglie e divide la composizione in due, creando due piani di lettura ben distinti, nel bianco e nero il contrasto c'è ma non così netto.

I like the color version much better. It is a soft feeling photo, which works really well here no matter the reason. Nice! :)

You reached for me and GOT me, Mary. I don't know about going all the way to B&W but I wouldn't mind turning down the wick on saturation just a wee bit. I'm not much of a one for close cropping, but this looks fine to me.
Ah! I see you added the B&W version below. Hmmm. The translucence of the petals comes over very well, and makes this successful, I think... Very different, isn't it! Hardly looks like the same shot.

I like the cropping Mary, and the complementary colors..I also like the b&w version, it has a kind of elegance, the delicate curves of the petals in both versions are lovely..the only thing I think I might have been tempted to do is perhaps remove some of the petals from the top and the very left side just to emphasize the beauty, and the folds/curves of the one flower...but even as it is, it's lovely....Linda

Normally I do not like flowers in B&W. I feel it takes from their natural beauty but in this case the variations in shades really pops out at you when the color is removed and gives it a sort of delicate look that is missing in the color. I prefer the B&W in this situation. Del.
