I like the feel of the hand reaching out from the darkness. The BW tones are very dramatic and add to the feel of it.

Hi Robert! Thank you!
This is my hand, take with the camera's self timer. I put on black clothes and used a black background cloth to hide all but my hand and forearm. With a little darkening the background cloth disappears.

ok, Kes, you talked above my head for a moment...I honestly know nothing about strobes :( though I wish I did! But, if you are making me take a second look...I didn't think the fingertips were too bright, maybe just between the first and second finger on the hand ~ just a small tad though. I love the effect you were going for and think you accomplished it well!

Thanks Janet!
- Although I used a couple of strobes on this - one higher right and one lower left - the only way to activate them when using the self timer is with the camera flash (oh, yeah, I could have rigged up a deflector and just worked off the strobes...now I think of it). As you can see, a little bright on the fingertips.
grrr
...but I guess it might actually work better this way...for the dark into light theme...

Hi Naomi -
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you liked it. UF blocks urls in comments, but if you search for Noel Salcedo, you can see the "hand" shot he has up (no title) that kind of has the texture I was trying for. One of these days I'll get it!
