Try converting this to B+W, I bet it improves it a lot. Keep playing with the portraits though, you can only get better :-)

You got it right, boring it is, maybe if there was an eye contact it would be better. But it is not completly hopeless. I sort of like Your composition, You included Your shoulders and that shows a lot of elegance, white necklace would go well in this photo with white top, the pink string is a bit distracting. You will get better, keep on trying.
